An Evening of Poetic Magic and Enchanted Stories

Last night in our town of Nevada City, CA, David blessed the local community with an unforgettable evening of profound and heartfelt poetry, gorgeous images, intoxicating aromas and captivating stories of his many travels to sacred places, meetings with holy people and studies of powerful plants. This offering was held so perfectly in the beautiful, warmly lit, cave-like exposed brick tea lounge, Haven Underground, as a benefit for our local non-profit health alternative and herbal apothecary, HAALo.

To many of us, everything David does is extraordinary.  Last night, however, was a deeply intimate and momentous sharing of sublime and personal poems that left us all feeling permeated and activated by this visionary's reflections and tales of the sacred.

In This Age
by David Crow

In this age, when freedom is struggling to be
Born before darkness falls,
What sacrifice
Can I make, to lift up
Those who have less than I,
To embolden those whose courage
Is sorely tested (and why does this have to be?)
And reach out from my soul
Through the visible and invisible
Kinship with life that lies,
Forgotten,
Within each and every heart and mind,
Each touch, each spoken word,
Each thought, so violent have they all become.

In this age, when truth is battling to be
Heard before silence falls,
What offering
Can I make, to soothe
Those whose wounds are greater than mine
To ease those whose faith
Is damaged beyond repair (and who will be accountable?)
And sing a song from long ago
That through our common roots
All creatures will know,
Remember,
Resonating in our bones, our breath
Our blood, our sap,
Our children, blessed may they be.

In this age, when the debt of justice
Must be paid,
What declaration
Can I make, to rectify
The dead who cannot speak
To bring salvation to those whose hope
Has turned cold (and how did we become heartless?)
And praise those who are truly worthy
Who in times past were shining lights
That guided others to the distant shore,
Together,
Our brothers, our sisters, our parents
Our husbands, our wives
Angels, all of them.

Here are a few of the comments that people shared:

"The Emerald Rivers benefit for Haalo was like a "wine tasting" of fragrances. My mind is still hearing David Crow's stories and remembering the beautiful images, as my olfactory senses continue to swirl with the scents of lavender, jasmine, frankincense, vetiver, savitri, ylang ylang, agarwood, tulsi, sandalwood, and rose, (shared with the backdrop of love poems he had written to his beloved.) As he shared stories, poems and images from his travels, his wife Sara passed around sticks infused with the oil for us to keep (and anoint ourselves), or fanned us with a cauldron brimming with the smoke of a scented resin or wood. We experienced the last bottle of savitri from a very special distillation, and a rare sandalwood oil made from the roots of old growth trees that had been unceremoniously cut down years ago and were now being replanted. It was a magical evening and such a gift! I would love to see a regular series of these story and fragrance evenings! Thank you David and Sara."

"Last night really was something.  It was so wonderful to be able to participate in an evening with David in our own home! The pictures were stunning, the oils picked were perfect.  The agarwood was essential. David's poetry made an absolutely perfect compliment to contemplating the oils.  Haven was enchanting, what a success!!! Thanks everyone for making it happen."

"As I inhale my shawl from last night, I am filled with memories both ancient and hours old. Thank you David, for a night of poetry, oils, tales and intimate community consciousness. I hope to attend future evenings filled with aromatic bliss."
